Time to Restart

Ok, I'm restarting the Everyman schedule. The reason for my absense was that this week I had a lot of running around to do and I felt falling asleep, whether it be at the wheel or while doing something, was to be avoided. I'll start updating after my core sleep.

I haven't, don't worry.

Everyman, Day 2: Part 1

I screwed up yet again. I went to my core sleep, feeling that it would feel great and I would get rested. Then I woke up at 10:00AM. For some reason, my alarm did not wake me up, and when Jeremy feverently called my cell, the bad reception in my area led to my phone not recieveing the calls. I will start napping again at 10.

Everyman, Day 1: Part 1

I fell asleep during my 10:00 nap. I think a few attributes contributed to this. First, I slept on an actual bed. Being comfortable meant it was easier to fall asleep. Another reason was that it was pitch black and well ventilated in the room. That also made it very easy. I have a feeling the core sleep will feel very good.

Switching Over

Big news. Jeremy and I have decided we will switch on over to the Everyman sleep schedule. There are a number of reasons for this:
  • constant pain in heart, head, and body
  • constant grogginess
  • lack of focus
  • loss of time
Now, I know it takes time to adjust to the Uberman sleep schedule. However, I do not believe the end result is justifying the means. I have lost already four days. Although I had periods where I felt awake, I was generally a mess and in pain. I know that I have to adjust; however, the amount of time that it would take for me to adjust is quite large compared to the Everyman. As an example, the amount of time one would gain for three days on the Uberman would be one day if they were gaining 8 hours a day. However, I have already lost 4 days due to the adjustment because of my lack of energy. Also, it takes about 30 days to completely adjust. That is a lot of lost time, and practically cancels out the amount of time gained. With the Everyman, the same general idea is kept, albeit with some key differences.
  • There is a core sleep time of about 3 hours which takes place during the middle of the night.
  • There are three naps of 20 minutes each or two naps of 30 minutes each, as opposed to six 20 minute naps.
The Everyman's core sleep is helpful because it has some resemblance to a monophasic sleep schedule, which we are all accustomed to. The switch may seem to some as a sign of weakness, but I believe that my mental and physical health and well being should take precedence over an extra 2 hours of sleep. The new schedule is a follows:

CORE SLEEP 2AM to 5AM

NAP 10AM to 10:20AM

NAP 3PM to 3:20PM

NAP 10PM to 10:20PM

Also note that only Jeremy and I are making the switch. Rob says he is handling the Uberman fine, which makes sense because he has the mental focus to do it. Phil is technically starting Uberman tonight and hasn't experienced everything yet, but he might be able to do it too. My first Everyman sleep will start at 1AM. I think I can stay up till then.

Uberman, Day 4: Part 5

Well, I woke up yet again. Phil is back into the sleep schedule, so hopefully he can make it through also. I still feel tired.

Uberman, Day 4: Part 4

Well, I woke up. A little later than normal, but I'm up. That's all I have to say for now.

Uberman, Day 4: Part 3

Hmmmm, where to start. I was doing pretty good up about until 5 to 6. A wall of tired just hit me. To keep awake, I assigned my self some menial tasks, such as cleaning and preparing my alarms. This kept me on my feet, which was good as I did not want a repeat performance of my failure yesterday morning. When I got to the nap, I think I fell asleep. However, when the alarm went off, I let it go multiple times, using my sleepy logic that as long as it kept going off, I would be fine. Luckily, Rob called at about 7:56, about 6 minutes after when I was to wake up. Having friends to call you after the nap is a very good idea. Another good idea I had was that as soon as I started feeling tired, I turned my phone volume to high and slipped it into my pocket. This was to prevent yesterdays fiasco, where my phone was on vibrate on the other side of the room. After I woke up, I felt kind of tired, but not as bad as I had been. Then I took a nice long shower, which further woke me up. I am treating showers like a resource: whenever I need to get away from being tired and want to wake up a bit more, a shower definitly helps. However, I don't want to take too many in case the effect starts to diminish. Also, I didn't hallucinate in the shower, which made me happy. I think today is going to be a tough day, but I'm going to try to power through it.

Uberman, Day 4: Part 2

Well, it's still 1 hour to my next map and I'm starting to get tired. The problem with this is if I don't any sleep or if I can't get into deep sleep, I might end up with the same scenario as yesterday: oversleeping. I'm not sure whether I should eat anything or not, although my stomach does feel kind of weird. Hopefully I can make it through without the dreaded hallucinations or passing out again.

Uberman, Day 4: Part 1

Welll, I just woke up from the first nap of the day. Between the beginning of the day, I tried following Rob's adivce and always had a little bit of food to eat. I had a yogurt, some strawberries, and a small amount of chips to eat. I never gorged myself, but I wasn't hungry. From 11:50 PM yesterday to before this nap, I was doing good. I wasn't really tired. I slept a little during this nap, or got close. This was the worst part of my day yesterday, leading to a huge amount of oversleeping. I am not fully awake yet, but I think I will do better today.

Uberman, Day 3: Part 6

I think this is good. I'm not feeling tired. I woke up (wasn't really sleeping) at 11:50 and, to my surprise, did not feel nearly as bad as last night. Maybe I am slowly getting used to this. I did eat a good amount of food during my last four hours too, so that may have had an effect. Hopefully things will keep going up from here.

And so closes Day 3 of Uberman.

Uberman, Day 3: Part 5

I didn't get a very good sleep this time. First of all, I got into the nap about 5 minutes late. That by itself assured it wasn't going to a great nap. Then, at about 7:43, about halfway through the nap, the phone rang. I made myself get up to check it and found it was a telemarketer asking me if I would like to erase my credit card debt. I said yes, hung up and headed back to the couch I was sleeping on, waiting for the inevitable end of the nap. All in all, it was a failure. However, I still don't feel all that bad. Must be from that oversleeping.

Uberman, Day 3: Part 4

I woke up from my 3:30 nap but didn't really get any sleep as it was. At least I am not feeling completely trashed though. The real problem comes during the mornings and the nights for me. However, Rob told me why I might not have been doing so good. I need to eat very high amounts of food because of my increased metabolism. I knew that but I did not know of the extent of how much i needed to eat. He sent me this message:

"i have carnation instant breakfast (for nutrition) a vitamin, an omlet, french toast, a fruit parfait, yogurt, chef boyardee, and Anie's shells with white chedar, not to mention a lot to drink"

Now I know that I need to eat more. To Stop & Shop!

Uberman, Day 3: Part 3

I have bad news. Right before my nap, I think I might have passed out. The bad part of this was that my alarms were not set and my phone was set to vibrate, so when people tried contacting they, they were not able to. As a result, I woke up at about 2:00 PM, which means I overslept for about 6 hours and 10 minutes. I don't feel all too great, but I'm going to try to continue if I start feeling better.

Hallucinations!

I went into the shower to try to keep myself up between 3:30 and this coming 7:30 nap. During this shower I started experiencing hallucinations for the first time. The first one I noticed was that when I closed my eyes and opened them again, everything that I could see would shake from left to right. That wasn't too bad. However, I dozed off in the shower and woke up about a minute or two later. I was very disoriented and did not know what was going on, and when I looked down at my arm, I noticed something very strange. The hair on my arms gets pushed around to wherever the water hits it and my brain usually interprets the seperate strands of hair moving. However, instead of that normal scenario occuring, my brain interpreted the skin between the hair as the moving part. It looked like I had dog fur, and I also noticed depth in the "fur" on my arms. I really cannot wait until 7:30 when I can finally take my long awaited nap. I am almost positive I will fall asleep this time.

Uberman, Day 3: Part 2

Just finished my 3:30 nap. I'm still a little sleepy but I think I may have actually got some rest during the nap. I'll probably take a shower in a little bit because they also help me stay awake.

Uberman, Day 3: Part 1

Erg.

I feel completely out of it right now. It is hard to concentrate on doing anything, and I can see that my motor and verbal skills are being affected. I keep making typos on the keyboard and I am typing at a much slower pace. When I talk, I talk much slower and my sentences are much more broken. From what I have read, this is one of the worst times during the Uberman sleep schedule. I need to get my energy back. I think my main problem is that I am getting to sleep too late during the naps and that when I do sleep, it is not the deep sleep I need. Jeremy told me that to fall asleep, he concentrates on one image or idea, whereas I have had multiple ideas bouncing around in my head. I just need to make it to 3:30 so that I can put his advice into action.

Uberman, Day 2: Part 7

Just woke up from my 11:30 nap a little while ago but I'm not feeling all that refreshed. I hope my head clears.

Uberman, Day 2: Part 6

Just finished my 7:30 nap and I still feel kind of tired. Hopefully the grogginess will wear off just as it has been in the last few 4 hour periods.

Uberman, Day 2: Part 5

I just woke up from my 3:30 nap. I don't feel too tired or too awake. However, I took the liberty of drawing up this energy level chart of a 4 hour period of time for you.

__-------'''''''---_

I seem to start my time awake a bit tired, get better towards the middle of the 4 hour period, than get tired as the period comes to an end. I do like how I was able to get up easier than earlier today, because it was not a fun experience being dead tired at 7:30 AM.

Progress!

It is almost time for my 3:30 nap and I'm starting to get moderately tired as opposed to awake or completely dead. This is good.

Uberman, Day 2: Part 4

I guess I didn't publish the post after I woke up from the 7:30 nap. The short of it was I felt like complete crap. My whole body ached and wanted to go back to sleep. I got a little bit of rest during the nap but it wasn't enough to do anything for me.

I woke up from my 11:30 a little while ago. I didn't get that much rest but I don't feel terrible, which is an improvement over my last nap.

Uberman, Day 2: Part 3

Well, it is almost time for my 7:30 nap. I just recieved news that Phil can't keep going with the schedule for a few days as he has relatives over. After my 3:30 nap, I felt really good. At about 5 AM, I took a walk during the sunrise in my neighborhood. I then made (and messed up) some French toast. However, I'm starting to feel pretty tired. I'm starting to get a headache is probably sleep-deprivation induced. I still have about 45 minutes until the next nap.

Uberman, Day 2: Part 2

I made it through another nap. I didn't fall asleep once again, but I was getting close to sleep. I still feel quite tired and I didn't want to get up at the alarm. I'll probably go for a walk later on when the sun starts to come up.

EDIT: Apparently, we lost a man during this nap. Zack did not wake up despite numerous phone calls and IMs. This isn't good.

Uberman, Day 2: Part 1

It's getting close to 3:00 AM now and I feel pretty tired. I think I'll be able to get some sleep during this next nap but I doubt it will do me any good. It sure does seem lonely at this time in the morning. I haven't really done all that much during this 4 hour period of time. I'll post again after the nap.

Uberman, Day 1: Part 3

I just "woke up" from my nap. However, I did not fall asleep at all, just like I expected. Now I have to make the most of the next 4 hours...

Uberman, Day 1: Part 2

It's almost time for the first nap, just about 10 minutes left. I'm setting alarms now. I doubt I will be able to sleep though, because I can't fall asleep in a short amount of time anyway.

Uberman, Day 1: Part 1

Today I am starting the Uberman sleep schedule with my friends. I am taking my first nap at 11:30 PM, in about 3 hours. I'll write more after the nap.

Almost Time for Uberman

Tomorrow begins the Uberman sleep schedule. My friends and I are doing this together as it will be easier doing it in a group. The schedule is as follows:

11:30-11:50 NAP
11:50-3:30
3:30-3:50 NAP
3:50-7:30
7:30-7:50 NAP
7:50-11:30
11:30-11:50 NAP
11:50-3:30
3:30-3:50 NAP
3:50-7:30
7:30-7:50 NAP
7:50-11:30
. . . .

I will probably start the naps around 7:30 pm.

The people I will be doing the schedule with are my friends Jeremy, Phil, Rob, and Zack. I put links to their Uberman blogs on the side.
